I am excited to recount a priceless moment in my life in God when I was still a very new Christian. I was so in love with God! It was so wonderful to know that I was actually loved by Someone, God Almighty, so much that He actually left His Kingdom and throne in the heavenlies, came to earth, was born as a human child to a lowly woman, lived a sinless life for 33 years, loved and healed many people, preached the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand to all that would listen, and prepared His small tribe to take His message to all the world.
Everywhere He went He manifested what Father God was like to the people who were with Him. He was full of joy and loving kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness, gentleness and great power. He was so very beautiful to those that had eyes to see. How I wish I could have been there during His time here on the earth.
What a thought, to cuddle up next to Him as John did and lean upon His chest as He taught His compatriots the Way of His Kingdom! Oh how I love Him!
He wants you to know my dear, dear friends that you can experience Him like that even now. You can experience His gentleness and kindness, His loving compassion and humility, His strength and power to help you endure through your difficult times in this world. He did not leave us when He left the earth! He is here with us right now, if we only have the eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to understand!
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.” John 14:18-19 NIV
I remember when He purposed to teach me the reality that He was with me and wanted to interact with me regularly.
It was a very busy time in my life. My children were small, I worked 7am-1pm each day and my husband worked 3-11:30pm each day so we were like two ships passing in the wind.
As I was doing the dishes one day I felt the Lord whisper into my heart, “Get up earlier in the morning and spend more time with Me.” I dismissed the thought. Number one, I was not used to the Lord talking to me, I was still a young Christian and number two there was no way I could add more on to my schedule! I was worn out and couldn’t even begin to fathom losing more sleep every day!
Again, the thought came to me the next day, “Get up early and spend more time with Me.” This time I knew it was God speaking to me which totally wrecked my heart. I never wanted to disobey the one I loved so much because He loved me so much He suffered horrifically and died so He could bring me into His family!
As I was pondering the truth that I had God requesting me to spend more time with Him, I heard Him say, “I will redeem the time that you lose from getting up earlier. I will redeem your sleep.”
I was hooked! I said, “Okay Lord! I will start getting up an hour earlier to spend time with You before I go to work.”
I began to do that the next day and I have been doing that now for about 29 years. It is why I am who I am today.
What I would do each day was simple. I had 2 different devotionals I had next to where I sat to be with the Lord each day. I would sit down and would just have my heart open to the leading of the Holy Spirit as to which devotional to open. Which ever one attracted my interest I would go to. Sometimes I would read the designated reading for that day, other times I would randomly open the devotional up and read what ever appeared before my eyes.
I cannot tell you how many times that devotional spoke right to my need at that moment. Often I would look up the Scripture reference it highlighted and read the whole setting around the referenced verse and meditate on what I saw there. That too was often something the Lord used to minister to my heart.
I would sit, pray and talk with the Lord, journaling what I felt I was understanding from my reading and what the Lord was whispering in my heart.
It was a very difficult time in my life and this time was a respite from the reality I was facing every day. I purposed to only journal the good things I was learning from the Lord and the gentle whispers of love I felt He was saying to me through His Scriptures. I felt that my journals would some day be a testimony to my family when I was gone and I did not want to recount all the difficulties I had throughout my life, but I did want to testify to the Lord’s faithfulness to love me through everything I had to face.
So now, 30 years later, I have 30 years of journals testifying to the faithfulness of God in my life no matter what difficult circumstances I have had to go through. My journals are a treasure trove of historical information I can now use to teach others of His great loving kindness and faithfulness to His children that trust and obey Him.
Speaking of that, my life verse is John 14:21.
“Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love them and show Myself to them."
This verse is the key to my power filled life in God story that I share each week in my blog. I was reading Chapter 14 in the book of John when I was saved and it has been engraved upon my heart and mind forever more!
If I wanted to have an intimate relationship with God I had to obey Him. If I wanted to have Him start showing Himself to me I had to listen and obey Him to the best of my ability.
Now listen carefully to what I am saying here. God loves you unconditionally no matter what you do or have done. He is love. But if you want to intimately connect with Him He has some parameters that you have to follow to get His manifested presence to be a part of your regular life. He is a jealous God the Scriptures say.
"Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Exodus 34:14.
He will only reveal Himself to His children if you do as He asks. He grants the favor of His intimacy to those that do what His heart desires them to do. He speaks of this again and again in His Scriptures.
"Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me." Luke 9:23
He aches to be intimate with all of His kids, but He knows if we do not pick up our cross daily and do as He asks we will be in a deep load of hurt because we have opened ourselves up to the evil ones working in us and through us through our disobedience, which is rebellion. So He holds back His intimacy, always wooing us to come closer to Him, through circumstances He sets in motion in our lives. He is wanting to be very open and connected to us. That is how Adam and Eve lived before they disobeyed Him and the Lord Jesus has won that place of intimacy back for us by dying on a cross for us, paying the price for our sinful rebellion.
He does not expect perfection. But He does ask us to keep trying to do what He is asking us to do. He will pick us up when we fall and brush us off, tell us He loves us and forgives us and to keep trying. But only if we repent, turn away from what He is asking us to stop doing and ask Him to help us quit sinning in that area of our life and send us the help we need to get free.
He only focuses on one or two areas of our lives as He conforms us to His image. He doesn’t expect us to radically get free from everything overnight. Getting whole and healed is a life long process we all have to go through dear one.
I have been healed of so many bad things I used to do and think. It is amazing to me, but it all happened over time as I sat with Him each morning and He continued to reveal Himself and His profound love for me through the devotionals, the Scriptures and through books He would highlight to me that were stories of the ancient fathers and mothers of our faith and how they journeyed through their life with God on the earth.
Never run away from God when you mess up! That is exactly what the devil wants you to do! God’s love is never ending and He is always ready to take you into His arms and love on you, forgive you and put you back up on your feet.
I am so thankful I listened to the Lord that day 29-30 years ago and obeyed Him. My life story is an amazing tale and it is all because of that simple act of obedience and determination to live for my Lord and King and not listen to my flesh!
It doesn’t matter what you have done, or how long you have disobeyed Him. He is ready right now for you to set yourself straight with Him.
You must trust that He really does love you more than you can comprehend. Whenever I am in a very bad place and hurting terribly and wondering what the heck God could be up to in my life. How He could allow such pain in my life, I run to His Passion Week and meditate on His horrific suffering for me as He was brutally tortured and slain on a cross just for me. My focus shifts and I know that I am loved and He is with me because He says so in the Scriptures.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6
Right now, ask Him to forgive you for your disobedience. Pour out your heart to Him. Ask Him to help you be strong and not give into your flesh any longer. Ask Him to connect you with another brother or sister in Christ to help you along your journey.
We are not created to walk this life alone. We are easy marks for the evil ones when we try to independently live our Christian lives. It does not work that way. The Trinity is a community and He has ordained that we too must live in a community to be strong.
When I have been in deep places of pain He often would insist that I serve another person in their pain. He knows that if we get our minds off of our circumstances and love someone else who is in an even worse place then we are we too get much healing in our own broken hearts.
So listen carefully and expect your great loving, kind God to direct and guide you through your time on this earth.
The key is consistent quiet, focused time with Him daily, studying His Word and the lives of those that have gone before you, obey Him as He whispers into your heart what He wants you to focus on next in your journey into wholeness, get into a community and learn how to fight against the evil ones that are trying to defeat you.
